8.3 magnitude earthquake in Santiago,Chile and Tsunami warning in Peru

STRONG EARTHQUAKE OF MAGNITUDE 8.3 IN CHILE AND TSUNAMI WARNING IN PERU


On 16th at 7:45 p.m. a strong earthquake of magnitude 8.3 occurred in Santiago and places nearby. Buildings in Santiago got strongly shaken by earthquake. Because of fear more than thousand people came out on streets which caused a lot of disturbance. A Tsunami warning has been issued in the entire coastal region of Chile and neighboring country Peru and Tsunami advisory has been announced in Hawaii also. Chile government has revealed that because of unstable network the details of total damage and injured people in affected area cannot be reported till now. USGC initially announced the earthquake of magnitude 7.9 but immediately corrected it with the magnitude of 8.3. According to USGC report, the epicenter of earthquake was located 228 km to north-west of Santiago at the coast of Pacific Ocean with the depth of only 5 km. Chile government has estimated that the epicenter was 500 km North of Santiago with the depth of 11 km. Strong vibrations were also felt in the capital city of Argentina which is at the distance of 400 km. A few minutes after a severe shock, at least two aftershocks has been reported of magnitude 6.0 or greater. Chile government has ordered the evacuation of all coastal people saying that there is a possibility a strong Tsunami may hit the country's coastal area at 11p.m.High magnitude earthquakes occur frequently in Chile because it is located in the high seismic zone i.e. Pacific Rim AKA "Ring Of Fire". More than 5 thousand people were killed in Central Chile in 1960 due to strong earthquake of magnitude 9.5 and recently an earthquake of strong magnitude of 8.8 hit hard Chile in Feb,2010.

Strong earthquake of magnitude 8.3 hits Chile.. Tsunami warning issued till Peru

A strong earthquake of  magnitude 8.3 occured in the vicinity of Santiago, the capital city of Chile, on 16th April at 7:54 PM. Because of the earthquake, the entire coastal area of Chile and the neighbouring country Peru , has been issued Tsunami warning and an advisory has been issued in Hawai, US. Also, the buildings of the Santiago city has were strongly shaken because of which thousands of fear-stricken citizens rushed out to the street, evacuating their houses, which caused a huge chaos. The Chilean government revealed that due to the unstable condition of communication services in that area, the details of injuries and damages cannot be reported yet. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) initially announced the magnitude of the earthquake to be at 7.9  but they immediately upgraded it to magnitude 8.3. STRONG QUAKE IN CHILLE [SANTIAGO].......TSUNAMI ALERT IN PERU
