On 16th at 7:54pm a powerful Earthquake of magnitude 8.3 occured in the vicinity of Santiago, capital of Chille.
Because of this Earthquake, Tsunami alerts were issued in all coastal areas of Chile as well as its neighboring country Peru and an advisory has been issued in Hawaii.
In Santiago downtown, buildings startwd shaking strongly and thousands of people came out on the streets altogether which created a chaos along the streets.
Chille government has announced that due to the unstable condition of communication the detailed report of damages caused and injured can't be revealed.
U.S.G.S initially announced the magnitude to be 7.9 but updated it to 8.3 right away.
According to U.S.G.S the epicentre was in the coastal areas of Pacific ocean and was located 228km away the northwest of Santiago and depth of the epicentre was 5km.
Later on Chille government estimated the epicentre is located 500km nothwest and depth is 11km.
Vibrations were also felt in Buenos Aires and is 1400 km away from Chille.
Few minutes after the earthquake atleast two after shocks of magnitude 6 were reported.
Chille government issued an advisory to evacuate the Pacific coastal areas as there are chances of Tsunami hitting by 11pm.
Frequent occuring of Earthquakes in Chille, having high magnitude is because of its location in the earthquake zone of pacific rim which is also known as Ring of fire.
In 1960 around 5000 people died in Central park of Chille due to the Earthquake of magnitude of 9.5 and recently in 2010 an Earthquake of magnitude 8.8 hits Chille.
