A massive earthquake of magnitude 8.3 occurred near Chile's capital Santiago on 16th April at 7:54 PM.
A tsunami warning was issued for the entire coastal area of Chile and the neighbouring country Peru.
Also an advisory of tsunami was issued in Hawai,USA.
In the downtown of Santiago, buildings were strongly shaken by the earthquake and more than thousands of fear driven citizens streamed out to street, evacuating their houses ,which caused a huge chaos.
The Chilean government ,however has yet to report any casualties or specific damage while the situation of communication services are unstable in that region.
the United States Geological Survey (USGS) initially announced the magnitude of earthquake to be at 7.9 but then after they immediately upgraded it to magnitude 8.3.
According to USGS,the epicentre is located at 228 km away from northwest of Santiago in the coastal area of Pacific Ocean,5 km below the sea level.
The University of Chile has estimated the epicentre of earthquake to be at 500 km north of Santiago and the depth of seismic wave to be around 11 km deep.
Strong vibrations were felt in the capital of Argentina -Buenos Aires which is 1400 km away from chile.
The Chilean government issued an order to evacuate the residents of the coastal area stating that Tsunami caused due to earthquake could hit the coastal area at 11 PM.
