TSUNAMI WARNING IN PERU,
VIOLENT 8.3 EARTHQUAKE IN CHILE
On 16th at 7:54 pm(local time) an earthquake with a magnitude of 8.3 shook Chile the capital city of Santiago.
By this earthquake,Tsunami warning has been issued in all coastal areas of Chile and neighbouring countries of Peru as well as Hawaii in US.
In downtown Santiago, thousands of fear struck people ran out to the road because of the strongly shaken buildings and it was chaos.
But the Chile government said that the telecommunication condition is unstable in the affected area and due to this the detailed reports of injured and the damage it caused is still unknown.
The US Geological survey initially announced the magnitude of the earthquake as 7.9 but it immediately rose to 8.3. According to them the epicentre of the earthquake was at Northwest of Santiago 228 km of the pacific coast at a depth of 5 km.
Chile university estimated the epicentre to be 500 kms north of Santiago with a depth of 11 km.
strong vibrations were also felt in Buenos Aires, capital city of Argentina which is located 1400 km from Chile.
It was also reported that,after the main earthquake,it was followed by two strong aftershocks each with 6.0 magnitude.
Due to the earthquake,Chile government issued evacuation orders to the people of the coastal areas.It was predicted that seismic Tsunami will hit the country's shore at 11 pm.
Chile belongs to the circum-pacific earthquake belt region where strong earthquakes usually occur.
In 1960 a strong earthquake measuring 9.5 Richter scale killed 5000 people. Recently in February an earthquake of 8.8 magnitude hit Chile.
